I’ve been studying biology, psychology and now I’ve came up with the sexuality topic – homosexuality.

I’d like to know what are the most famous homosexual people in ancient times (artists, musicians and so on) . Also I’d like to know how homosexuality was represented in middle ages and before, was it shown in art?

The earliest account of Homosexuality in Literature, that I can remember, comes from Ancient Egypt, and tells the story of the Homosexual relationship between the god Horus, and his uncle Set.

"Now afterward, (at) evening time, bed was prepared for them, and they both lay down. But during the night, Seth caused his phallus to become stiff and inserted it between Horus’s thighs."

Emperor Hadrian had a "beautiful young man" named Antinous as his lover.
And the Greek God Zeus had a lover named Ganymede.

Just look those up online and you’ll find some good stuff.

I’m positive that there are plenty more examples, but these are the two that my tour guide talked about when I went to Italy and Greece. :P

well i know that artists Leonardo de Vinvi and Michelangelo were homosexual and back then, homosexuality wasn’t a huge deal as it is today. in ancient Rome, there is a place (country i think) called Lesbos (yes i know) were the gay community would meet up there and have sexual encounters. I don’t know about any homosexual art but i hope this helped!

I know that in Ancient Greece, it was expected for a thriving community to have homosexuality. The masters would, in fact, teach it to their students (you can imagine how). Rich people would have servants and slaves of both genders, and brothels would also offer choices, and I would imagine that, in those times, it were men who frequented those places. It was also not unusual for a women to have a lady-friend on the side of a heterosexual relationship. Concerning art, you can probably find some from Ancient Greece or Rome depicting homosexuality, though I would doubt it would be as predominant as heterosexual art.

In ancient Greece, there was a lesbian poet named Sappho, who was once called the tenth muse. She lived on the island Lesbos; you can guess where the word ‘lesbian’ came from.
